I wrote a book during COVID

In March just before COVID arrived in New Zealand and we got locked down, I was about to have the best year business-wise in my Travel Business.

I'm not a travel agent or anything but I am involved in helping change people's lives for the better by helping them get placed in overseas working holiday jobs.

They become more independent and more confident and ultimately come back better as a person and more clear on what they want to do as a career.

New Zealand went into lockdown with something like 100 cases at the time. And most peoples' desire to travel stopped with that. My revenue fell to zero almost overnight.

For the next few months, I mainly dealt with clients wanting refunds and others deferring their trips. No one knew at that stage how long this was to drag on for.

My husband's job was affected as well and for a while, we enjoyed the quiet - we actually like staying home. But the novelty wore off pretty quickly.

By the time we hit July, I realised my business savvy and cost-cutting would get us through but all my staff would need to be furloughed. That was tough - and really hard to break the news to everyone.

While we hibernated - I was actually probably one of the few that wasn't at home eating all the junk food in sight. Did you notice the biscuits and chocolate and chips were the first things to sell out at the supermarket  - after they realised you can't eat toilet paper?

So by the time November 2020 arrived I had re-designed three of my websites and decided the time was right to start my book.

I had always wanted to write a book - but what I didn't realise was that I would write one about my own Hashimoto's journey. But it was really the obvious choice. Every day online - in private Hashimoto's Facebook groups I saw women suffering - like I used to.

So I wanted to share the success I had had with others.

Once I started the outline of the book I think the frame for 20 chapters was done in one afternoon - it was like a tap from my brain to virtual paper!

I finished it today - it's uploaded and waiting to be published - all done in five and a half months.

My husband said - I thought your book was going to be your semi-retirement project?

I told him I'll just write another one!
